Uganda has taken a significant step in advancing health industrialization and international scientific collaboration through the signing of a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Technology Transfer Agreement at Hacettepe University in Ankara, Türkiye.
A high-level Ugandan delegation led by the Director General of Health Services, Prof. Dr. Charles Olaro, and accompanied by Uganda’s Ambassador to Türkiye, Her Excellency Nusura Tiperu, successfully concluded an official visit to Türkiye from April 27th to 30th, 2026. The visit was marked by the formal signing of both agreements at Hacettepe University, reinforcing Uganda and Türkiye’s shared commitment to strengthening health cooperation through science, innovation, and strategic partnership
The MoU and Technology Transfer Agreement establish a strategic framework for cooperation in vaccine research and development, pharmaceutical innovation, diagnostics, biotechnology skills transfer, public health systems strengthening, and local manufacturing capacity. Through this partnership, Uganda aims to accelerate the development of domestic vaccine production capabilities, reduce dependence on imports, create skilled jobs, and strengthen national and regional health security.
During the visit, the Ugandan delegation also paid a courtesy call to Uganda’s Ambassador to Türkiye, underscoring the growing importance of health diplomacy and science-led international partnerships in advancing sustainable healthcare systems.
This milestone reflects Uganda’s determination to position itself as a future vaccine manufacturing and biotechnology hub for Africa while deepening bilateral relations with Türkiye. It signals a new era of knowledge exchange, institutional collaboration, and strengthened preparedness for public health emergencies.
