Microhaem Scientifics was honored to host Her Excellency Ambassador Nusura Tiperu, Uganda’s Ambassador to Türkiye, at its headquarters in Ntinda, where she was received by the Group Managing Director, Dr. Cedric Akwesigye.
The high-level visit reaffirmed the growing partnership between Uganda and Türkiye in advancing Uganda’s health innovation ecosystem through strategic partnerships, technology transfer, and capacity building. It also provided an opportunity to review the progress of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Technology Transfer Agreement between Microhaem Scientifics, the Vaccine Access Initiative (VAi), and Hacettepe University, an important milestone in strengthening Uganda’s capacity for research, diagnostics, biopharmaceutical development, and advanced manufacturing.
During the visit, Ambassador Tiperu toured Microhaem’s operational manufacturing facility and the Phase II expansion, gaining first-hand insight into the company’s journey from innovation to industrial-scale biopharmaceutical manufacturing. The visit underscored the shared commitment to strengthening local manufacturing capacity, accelerating knowledge transfer, and positioning Uganda as a regional leader in health innovation.
Impressed by the scale of the expansion, the Ambassador noted that Microhaem Scientifics demonstrates Uganda’s readiness to build self-reliance in biopharmaceutical manufacturing and pandemic preparedness. She observed that the new Phase II facility, approximately fifteen times larger than the existing plant, will position the company among the region’s most significant biopharmaceutical manufacturing investments. She further reaffirmed the continued support of Uganda’s Mission in Türkiye in strengthening partnerships that accelerate technology transfer and industrial growth.
Her Excellency also commended the progress of the collaboration with Hacettepe University, confirming that seven Ugandan scientists are currently undergoing advanced training in Türkiye as part of the technology transfer programme. The initiative represents a significant investment in developing the highly skilled workforce required to support Uganda’s emerging biopharmaceutical manufacturing ecosystem.

Dr. Cedric Akwesigye reaffirmed Microhaem Scientifics’ commitment to building globally competitive biopharmaceutical manufacturing through strategic international partnerships. He noted that collaborations such as the one with Hacettepe University are laying the foundation for a sustainable innovation ecosystem that will serve Uganda, the region, and the African continent.
