Microhaem Scientifics (MHS) was honored to host a high-level delegation from the Republic of South Sudan at its In Vitro Diagnostics (IVD) manufacturing facility in Ntinda, Kampala, marking an important milestone in advancing regional cooperation in health innovation, regulation, and local manufacturing.
The delegation was led by Dr. Peter Aguek Baak, Director General of Inspection and Surveillance at the South Sudan Drug and Food Control Authority, and accompanied by Dr. Gulomo Godfrey, an expert in public–private sector partnerships. The visit was hosted under the leadership of Dr. Cedric Akwesigye, Co-founder and Managing Director of Microhaem Scientifics, who focused on strengthening regulatory collaboration, quality assurance frameworks, and sustainable diagnostic supply chains across the region.
During the visit, the delegation conducted an in-depth tour of East Africa’s pioneering indigenous IVD manufacturing plant, which produces high-quality rapid diagnostic tests for Malaria, HIV, and Sickle cell disease. The facility operates under an ISO 13485–certified Quality Management System, supported by fully automated production lines, advanced cleanroom infrastructure, state-of-the-art equipment, and rigorous quality assurance and risk management protocols. These capabilities enable an annual production capacity of up to 85 million test kits, contributing significantly to the regional diagnostic sector.
In his remarks, Dr. Peter Aguek Baak commended Microhaem Scientifics for its robust Quality Management System, proactive quality risk management practices, world-class manufacturing infrastructure, and scalable production capacity. His endorsement underscored the company’s adherence to international regulatory standards and its growing role in promoting diagnostic sovereignty and equitable access to essential health technologies across Africa.
The visit represents a pivotal step toward South–South cooperation, regulatory harmonization, knowledge exchange, and the exploration of strategic partnerships aimed at building resilient regional health supply chains. It further reflects a shared commitment to leveraging African-led innovation to strengthen health systems and improve patient outcomes.
